I know you’re a writer.
Are you always wondering if there’s a new way to earn money, beyond client work, Medium read earnings, Substack subscriptions, or selling books?
That’s why I want to introduce you to a new method for making money—right with Notion!
Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you to write an ebook or anything.
As the title suggests, what you’re about to learn is a new way to make money using Notion, plus one complementary tool.
What is Notion? #
Many writers might not have heard of Notion yet.
So, I feel it’s my responsibility to introduce it to you first.
Notion is an all-in-one productivity tool you can use for:
- taking notes
- managing tasks
- building databases
- collaborating with others
- organizing projects
Sounds like a good fit for us writers, doesn’t it?
For writers like us, Notion is like a blank canvas where you can build and organize your entire creative workflow—and even sell that very workflow.
So, How Exactly Do You Make Money with Notion? #
The answer is: Notion templates. #
As a writer, you undoubtedly have your own system and workflow in place.
Whether you’re:
- tracking content ideas
- planning blog post outlines
- or creating social media schedules
You can take these little systems you use daily and turn them directly into Notion templates—and sell them! #
Believe me, there are many creators out there struggling to get their work organized—and they’re waiting to learn your workflow!
Here’s an Example: #
I, for instance, am a Medium writer who also creates for YouTube and blogs. So I built a Notion template for myself, called:
“My Content Creation Calendar”
Here’s what it includes:
- A content idea capture area
- Weekly publishing schedule
- Headline testing checklist
- Blog post outline structure
- Video script template
- A status tracker (Idea → Draft → Edit → Publish)
Many creators find building a system like this from scratch daunting.
If I were to share this template with others, wouldn’t I easily be able to earn some passive income from something I already use daily?
Preparation Before Selling #
✅ Step 1: Finalize and Polish Your Template #
You’ll want to make sure:
- It’s easy to duplicate (just share a public template link)
- The interface is clean and user-friendly (use toggles, headings, emojis, and clear labels)
- Include instructions for use (you can have a “Start Here” page or add direct comments within)
- Before publishing, get feedback from two or three creator friends
✅ Step 2: Create Your Product Page #
This is where your second tool comes in:
- Gumroad.
Gumroad is where you’ll publish your product.
When setting it up, remember to:
- Upload a decent, eye-catching Notion template thumbnail
- Write a clear and compelling description, telling people what the template does and who it’s for.
✅ Step 3: Promote #
Now comes the most crucial part:
- Getting eyes on your product.
You can promote your template in two ways:
- Organic promotion (e.g., posting on platforms like Medium, YouTube, Twitter/X, Instagram)
- Paid advertising (Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads)
For beginners, I strongly recommend starting with organic promotion.
Even if you price your template at $15—selling just 10 copies will net you $150.
Final Thoughts #
If you’re tired of just earning a bit from the Medium Partner Program or living off Substack’s modest subscription fees, then it’s time to think about a smarter sales strategy.
There’s so much more to explore.
And Notion is just one path.
That’s the story for now.
